I'm trying to build an alignment of proteins in the major facilitator superfamily (MFS). I have alignments of a family of peptide transporters, the SLC15 family, but I would now like to extend the alignment to members outside of this. To do this I want to BLAST a sequence, such as SLC15A1, and get results back that are:

a) From humans, which I can do easily by filtering BLAST results.

b) Not other members of the SLC15 family. For example, if I blast SLC15A1 then all my results are SLC15A2, SLC15A3, etc. I was wondering if there is a way to exclude proteins from the same family.

I would appreciate any help/advice on how to exclude proteins from BLAST that are members of the same family! (even if the answer is no, this is not possible) Thanks!!!
