ERCC (External RNA Controls Consortium) RNA spike-in mix: set of 92 RNA molecules of known sequence and concentration. They are added to RNA before sequencing in order to assess the quality of the analysis. They can be used to assess the dynamic range of the sequencing, the lower detection limit, the linearity between RNA concentration and RPKM and the accuracy of fold-changes between two conditions if two spike-in mixes are used.
