Acronym for "high performance computing"

HPC refers to any computer system specifically designed for number crunching. A typical system would compromise a head node and a series of 'minor' nodes (formally referred to as 'slave' nodes). The head node would distribute jobs to the minor nodes arranged in a cluster and connected via a queuing system. Modern HPC often comprise an advanced graphics processing unit (GPU) and used in deep learning calculations, but traditional CPU clusters are equally considered HPC.
