Single mutation in the DNA or RNA for RNA viruses, also known as single nucleotide polymorphism (SNPs)
Point mutation is a single mutation which may or may not cause a change in the amino acid. A point mutation is identified as a change at a given homologous position in alignment of DNA sequence. Phylogenetic trees are calculated of DNA (or RNA for RNA viruses) data are constructed by modelling of point mutations.
